Education

My schooling and pre-university education (A and O level equivalents) took place in Bangalore, India. I obtained good grades throughout school. My undergraduate training took place at Bangalore University, a large university with over 1000 medical undergraduates per year. Professional Activities

  • Accident and Emergency Course–February 2006 at The Royal Infirmary, Glasgow
  • Surgical Update Seminar-March 2006 at Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
  • Basic Surgical Skills Course–April 2006 at Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
  • Follow up of instructions during ward round I have audited the follow-up instructions given during the receiving ward rounds in clinical observership under the guidance of my consultant. I documented instructions regarding every admission and followed them up regularly to identify errors during their implementation. After analysing the data, changes in practice were recommended after discussion and we decided to re-audit after 6 months.
  • Management of hand injuries I audited the management of hand injuries against set guidelines by the Orthopaedic department over a period of 3 months who attended the Orthopaedic plaster room referred by Accident and Emergency department. In this audit my role included retrospectively collecting and analysing data. After discussion with my senior colleagues in the departmental meeting changes proposed by the audit were implemented and a plan was made to re-audit after three months.
  • Survey of Malaria cases I collected data from primary health centres and mapped all the cases on to the city map (the size of a wall) by their addresses. After analysing the data we found that >70% was clustered around building sites and were mostly migrant construction workers. Appropriate actions were taken by educating the people regarding association of malaria and breeding sites with stagnating water, and patients were distributed with mosquito nets. The survey repeated between February 2001 and February 2002 showed significant reduction in malaria prevalence.
