Prof. Kumar received the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain's 2009 Science medal. The Conference Science Medal is awarded annually to a scientist (in industry or academia) with a proven track record of independent research and whose published work shows outstanding promise. Prof. Kumar was awarded the medal in recognition of his work in oral delivery of bioactives aided by nanomaterials. He gave the award lecture entitled "What makes a medicine?" on September 1, 2010 (www.ukpharmsci.org).
Prof. Kumar received the Professor Tom Gibson Memorial Award from the British Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow. The award aims to recognise outstanding accomplishment and/or outstanding potential of young medics/scientists below the age of 40, involved in multidisciplinary research activity oriented towards enhancing developments in medicine and/or in its related sciences and technologies. The award is usually given to either lecturers, researchers, visiting lecturers or professors, honorary fellows, alumni of Universities of Glasgow or Strathclyde. There have been around 6 awardees since 1996.
Prof. Kumar received the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Young Scientist Medal in Medical Science category (Dec 2007) for his contributions to the area of nanomedicines. The INSA Young Scientists Award considered the highest recognition of promise, creativity and excellence in a young scientist under 35, is given annually to those distinguished for these attributes as evidenced by the research work carried out in India.
